AOE,

the sisters of Alpha Phi Zeta Sigma at Franklin and Marshall College

so who are you?

how did you get started?

what's your purpose?

We are a lifelong sisterhood helping each other achieve success, happiness, and fulfillment.

In 1872 at Syracuse University, our founders established a legacy of support for women and education at a time when most women did not have access to academic opportunity.

In all that we do, we strive to grow in our character through a feeling of unity, building of a community, and caring for our sisters.

our values

SISTERHOOD

"To me, sisterhood means never having to stand alone. Sisterhood gives you the ability to create countless memories with people who love and support you. It means finding your second family through their support and encouragement. Sisterhood is an everlasting bond that is for life and will last far beyond college. Sisterhood has allowed me to feel comfortable challenging myself because I know that even if I fail, my sisters in Alpha Phi will be there for me."

LOYALTY

LEADERSHIP

"I vividly remember during recruitment, I knew that the two traits that I valued most were loyalty and kindness. What I didn't grasp at the time was APhi's emphasis on loyalty in good times as well as bad. I love APhi for too many reasons to count,  but something that has especially stood out to me during my time in the organization is the depth of our friendships and how strong our loyalty really is. In aphi, girls gleefully cheer at one another's successes, yet also pick each other up when we fall. When I was abroad and desperately homesick, my sisters sent me letters in the mail, and when I started sharing photos I had edited, my inbox was filled to the brim with support and words of affirmation from my sisters. These examples and numerous others have made it clear to me that I can depend on my sisters no matter what is going on in my life and, likewise, they know that they can depend on me. APhi is a powerful community and we have developed and strengthened it through our fierce loyalty and compassion, in turn it has allowed me, and the girls around me, to grow in ways we never thought would be possible."

"Coming into Alpha Phi as a freshman I was nervous but super excited. Within months, I was able to start taking on leadership positions! One of the most rewarding positions I’ve held was Director of Sisterhood Events where I planned some of the time that we spend together bonding and connecting with one another. Being able to hold a position, no matter how big or how small has really helped me feel integrated into the chapter and like I am part of something bigger than myself. Because of the incredible support of my sisters, I have felt encouraged to take on new positions that I might not have thought as options before."

SERVICE

"A major aspect of our chapter of Alpha Phi is the work that we do within Franklin and Marshall, and Lancaster. Working to better the community brings our sorority together to help others while spending time and laughing with each other. We are a group of privileged women who recognize our resources and spend time giving back to others. The community service events range from cleaning up trash to visiting children's care centers, nursing homes, and more. The heartfelt community service makes us a humbler and more grounded group of women."

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT

"Character development is something that I am always working on. Development in who you are is so important to me because I think that there is always something new to work on and I truly believe that there is always room for improvement. In Alpha Phi, my biggest character development has been a result of the people that I have been surrounded by. The girls in Alpha Phi have not only pushed me to be kinder, more empathetic, more confident in myself but they have pushed me to be the very best version of myself. In Alpha Phi, we learn from each other, we push each other to be the best, and we are there for each other, always."

SCHOLARSHIP

"Being surrounded by women who value scholarship has truly helped to shape my college experience in ways I never thought possible. My sisters have not only inspired me to be passionate about my studies, but they have made me so much more confident in my ability to succeed. Whether it is going to study hall at the house or finding a sister in the library who is willing to help me study, I know I am supported and know I have a team of people to help me. I am so grateful for the academic support and the encouragement that Alpha Phi has provided me."
